Relaxed motorcycling is something you want to enjoy. Unfortunately, motorcyclists often experience an annoying ‘ring’ in their ears and a very tired feeling after a long ride. This is caused by the high volume of wind noise under your helmet. At a speed of 70mph, the volume of wind noise averages at 98 dB. This means that you already risk permanently damaging your hearing after just 7 minutes. You will also become tired more easily, due to which you are less focussed in traffic. Earplugs on a whole do well to protect your ears from this damage however, if like us, you like to listen to music on your headset or talk to other riders or just listen to that beautiful engine note but don’t want wind noise getting in the way, the advanced earplugs from Alpine or Pinlock are the way to go. Although initially more expensive than regular foam earplugs, once bought you’ll never look back.
Foam earplugs will deaden the noise down of everything, the advanced earplugs however from Alpine or Pinlock have a special filter in them to allow through certain frequencies like voice and music while reducing the noise of the wind and engine (not so much that the engine can’t be heard at all). All sets from Alpine and Pinlock are silicone free and come with a case.
Here at North West Honda Super Centre we sell 5 types of ear plugs:
