Wheel Alignment

Why do you need wheel alignment for your vehicle?

Most people believe you only need an alignment if you have a problem. This is not the case. Cox Motor Group has launched a new service to help local drivers cut their motoring costs and improve their safety on the roads. Thanks to the company’s investment in a state-of-the-art four wheel alignment system, drivers will be able to have their wheel alignment measured quickly and accurately. Any subsequent adjustments will then help to reduce any premature or uneven tyre wear, cut fuel bills and correct any distracting pull or drift issues. 9 out of 10 cars on the road suffer some form of misalignment.

Misalignment occurs

  • Through day to day driving of a car.
  • When kerbing or hitting a pot hole.
  • When components loosen.
  • When suspension parts wear.
  • When it may have been wrongly adjusted previously.

Misalignment can

  • Increase fuel consumption.
  • Cause premature tyre wear.
  • Cause poor road handling.
  • Cause the steering wheel to be crooked.

Hunter wheel alignment explained

Wheel alignment is an essential vehicle service which ensures your car operates with maximum efficiency, comfort and safety. It achieves this by making sure all of your wheels point in exactly the right direction in relation to each other and your direction of travel.

This is an increasingly important service on modern cars as the majority now have many adjustable components within the steering and suspension systems which, if not set correctly, can cause misalignment.

A Hunter wheel alignment service accurately measures up to 14 primary wheel angles and compares them with the original specifications detailed by your car manufacturer. If any differences are found, we can correct these by adjusting your car’s steering and suspension settings, which helps to maximise your fuel efficiency, reduce any uneven tyre wear and improve your driving comfort and safety.

Can you explain the Hunter printout?

For each alignment check, the customer is presented with two printouts (Before and After see below). The Hunter alignment report / printout uses clear, easy to understand graphics. Each angle measured, such as Camber, Caster Toe, etc is represented by a box or bar with a black arrow hovering above.

The exact angle measurement figures are displayed centrally in the coloured bar. The small figures in the top left and right of the bar, are the to and from tolerances of the motor manufacturer specifications.

  • Red boxes
Denoting that the angle is out of the manufacturer’s specification and therefore out of alignment.

  • Green boxes
Denoting it is within the specification and therefore the alignment is OK.

  • Black arrows
Indicates by how much the angle it is in or out of the motor manufacturer's specification

Tip: It is worth keeping all your alignment reports with your car documentation, as when it comes to sell your car, you can show it has been regularly checked and that the car is in good condition.
