The team at Blackpool Honda are now getting used to the idea of being stars on the small screen after Honda UK arranged for them to feature in a television commercial made by the Wieden & Kennedy agency. They’re now all looking forward to seeing themselves on the small screen.

The country’s premier cycle race, the Tour Of Britain, starts on Saturday 12th September in Scunthorpe in Lincolnshire and finishes at the heart of London on Saturday 19th September.

Stage Four of the 2009 Tour of Britain hits Blackpool on Tuesday 15th September with the action starting in Stanley Park at 10.15am. This year, Honda is supplying British-built Honda support vehicles during the whole of the tour as part of a promotion campaign. The team at Blackpool Honda were invited to appear in the television commercial which has been filmed to reflect the kind of view that one of the competing riders would be likely to see.

The camera was mounted on a van which drove past the Blackpool Honda complex whilst filming. The filming of the commercial involved Blackpool Honda’s Service Team waving and encouraging the riders riding past the dealership. Then it was the turn of the Sales, Administration, Parts and Marketing Team to do the same but a considerable amount of imagination had to be used as, of course, the cycling had yet to begin.

Stage Four involves the Cockerham Sprint, the Claughton Sprint, then the KOM stage (King of the Mountain) to Tatham Fells, the KOM stage to Cross of Greet and another KOM stage to Waddington Fell, followed by the Sprint to Broughton and then the last leg back to the finishing line at Sandcastle, Blackpool. When combined Stage Four lasts a gruelling 148 kilometres.

Honda UK’s support vehicles for the 2009 Tour of Britain are the Civic hatchback and CR-V compact 4x4, both built at the manufacturer’s Swindon plant.

To celebrate the event Blackpool Honda is holding an exciting competition to win a fabulous Honda Civic Type R for a whole year and a ride out with British Olympic Gold Medallist, Ed Clancy MBE, the English professional track and road bicycle racer who rides for the Halford-Bikehut team.

On 17 August, Clancy was a member of the Olympic team pursuit squad which broke the world record in the heats with a time of 3:55:202, beating their Russian opponents comfortably to go through to the final ride-off for silver and gold. The following day, on their way to winning the gold medal, the British Team pursuit broke their own world record in a time of 3:53:314, beating their Danish competitors by 6.7 seconds. Ed was appointed Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the 2009 New Year Honours.

In addition to these two amazing prizes Blackpool Honda will also be presenting exciting runners-up prizes. All you have to do to enter is to come and see the staff at the Blackpool Honda stand on Tuesday 15th September at the start or finish line, fill in a form, then post in the box provided.

Look out for the television commercial on its way soon!
